Our Economists on the Retabled Budget 2023

Benedict Weerasena, Research Director of Bait Al Amanah (House of Trust), shared his insights on the Retabled Budget 2023 in an exclusive interview with Astro Awani.

He noted that the budget represents measured improvements over the previous budget presented last October and that the government has prioritized a balance between short-term and long-term initiatives, as well as reforms and fiscal responsibility.

Benedict highlighted the Government Procurement Act as an example of how the government is working to improve good governance and accountability in public spending. The budget also includes several initiatives to help lower-income groups and promote upward social mobility, such as the IPR initiative that allocates 750 million to provide support and resources for those in need.
