On 30th April 2025, as a civil society partner Bait Al Amanah participated in the launch of the Multiparty Democracy Caucus (Kaukus Demokrasi Pelbagai Parti, KDPP), a platform aimed at fostering cross-partisan discussions among elected representatives. This initiative brings together ADUNs from different states to deliberate on key policy issues such as reforming Constituency Development Funds (CDF), regulating political financing, and strengthening the oversight role of state assemblies.
KDPP is represented by members from PAS, Amanah, DAP, PKR, and MUDA with ADUNs from Selangor, Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, and Johor participating in the discussions. Notably, the co-chairs, YB Dr. Hafidzah Mustakim (Amanah) and YB Dato' Andansura Rabu (PAS) —come from opposing political sides, reflecting the commitment to constructive dialogue. The late Allahyarham YB Ishsam Shahruddin (UMNO, Ayer Kuning, Perak) was also part of this effort before his passing.
The discussions leading up to the launch were spirited and encouraging, signaling the progress of Malaysia’s democratic landscape. The ability of the representatives from different parties and backgrounds to engage on complex issues demonstrates a growing maturity in governance.
KDPP is supported by several civil society organizations advocating for institutional and democratic reforms. The secretariat is led by Bersih (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections) and IDEAS (Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs), with Bait Al Amanah, Agora Society, and REFORM (Institute for Political and Democratic Reform) serving as civil society partners. This initiative represents a positive step forward in strengthening democratic institutions, fostering bipartisan cooperation, and driving meaningful policy discussions. Bait Al Amanah is proud to be part of this effort, working alongside partners to build a more transparent and accountable political system.
