South China Sea code is a step, not an end

Bait Al Amanah has recently published an opinion piece in the New Straits Times, detailing the significance of Malaysia’s role in the ASEAN-China Code of Conduct negotiations – especially as this year’s ASEAN Chair.


The op-ed emphasises the importance of safeguarding the COC negotiation under international law, and of adhering to the processes laid out by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).


It remains crucial for all parties to continue engaging in good faith, and resist external attempts to turn the region into a geopolitical flashpoint.
