Revitalizing Rural Sabah: Bridging Heritage and Innovation

The Sabahanomics Connect project offers key policy recommendations to address the dual challenges of economic underdevelopment and cultural preservation in Sabah's rural communities.

To bridge the digital divide, the policy brief recommends improving rural digital infrastructure through public-private partnerships to ensure reliable high-speed internet access. It also calls for targeted digital skills training, such as mobile digital literacy vans and blended online-offline learning models, to empower local communities, particularly the youth, with the skills needed for e-commerce and digital entrepreneurship. Additionally, the project advocates for creating a comprehensive digital cultural archive to document traditional practices and engaging the youth through initiatives like cultural mini-documentaries and social media ambassador programs. These recommendations aim to integrate economic empowerment with cultural preservation, promoting sustainable development in line with Malaysia's National Culture Policy 2021.
