Presentation: The Economics of Harm Reduction at ETMA 2024

The Evolving Treatment Methodologies in Addiction (ETMA) 2024 Conference was held recently on the 20th and 21st of March at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur. This highly dynamic and progressive conference was organized by SOLACE Asia featuring global thought leaders to openly discuss and showcase advancement in the addictions and mental health discourses.


Benedict Weerasena, Research Director of Bait Al Amanah was invited as a Conference Speaker on the topic of The Economics of Harm Reduction. Owing to his previous work as co-author of several publications on harm reduction, namely, ‘International Best Practices for Tobacco and Nicotine Public Policy’, ‘Harm Reduction Strategies: Discussion & Action Plan’ Policy Report, ‘Harm Reduction Policy as a Pathway toward Combating Illegal Trade’ Policy Brief, ‘Tobacco Harm Reduction: Principles & Policies’ Book Chapter and contribution to the drafting of a White Paper on ‘The Way Forward for Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) in Malaysia’; he shared passionately on the behavioural economic principles underlying harm reduction.
