It has been suggested that the government reduce its intervention in the marketplace and prioritise its liberalisation to achieve comprehensive and long-term subsidy reform.
On the other hand, Bait Al-Amanah research assistant Yugendran Sivakumaran said the government should not focus on rationalising more subsidies, but should concentrate on effectively enforcing various policies already in place for many of its existing subsidies.
